Telephone number: 01865589324
Got this call today to my home number where the caller said he was from MicroAssist and was going to help me stop the Hackers who were using my computer. He identified files by having me type inf in the Run box and asked that i use the CMD prompt in the Run box and type assoc to see the CLSID and he was able to quote it to me.
At this point I said i wanted their details and he said he was at telephone number 01865589324, but I asked to have the guys details sent to me by email and he tried to waffle, passing me up the line to his 'Supervisor'. When i said i work in Tech Support he hung up.
They had my Name and Home number and could identify my CLSID when I brought it up on my screen – so did they already know it because it is a generic number or could they see it in real time ?
They could easy scam people and need to be outed, so i hope this message gets passed on. They call any number on the basis that most people have a computer and most use Microsoft.
If someone falls for this on your machine,You should format the laptop immediately, do not use it on a network. Bring it to a local IT expert. Also check your credit card statement immediately for irregular transactions. This may be a simple attempt to get you to pay them for supposedly fixing your machine on a one off basis or a
wicked Phishing attempt to get all your private details.
